Hokkaido Cherry Blossom 2027 Viewing Spots Japan

Japan's northernmost cherry blossom paradise features 7 stunning spots from late April to early May, showcasing the latest blooms in the country.

Hokkaido, located at Japan's northernmost tip, experiences a colder climate that delays its cherry blossom season by about 2 to 4 weeks compared to Honshu. Each year, the blossoms burst into bloom from late April to early May, and due to the lower temperatures, the flowers last longer, making it perfect for leisurely viewing.

The iconic Goryokaku Park boasts around 1,600 cherry trees of the Somei Yoshino variety, creating a star-shaped sea of blossoms when viewed from above. Matsumae Park is home to over 250 varieties and approximately 10,000 cherry trees, ranking among the best in the nation for diversity. Meanwhile, the Nijuumon Road is famous for its 7-kilometer-long double-row cherry blossom avenue, making it feel like you're driving through a floral tunnel.

In Hokkaido, the cherry blossom season typically peaks from late April to early May, coinciding with Japan's Golden Week. It's essential to book transportation and accommodations in advance. During the cherry blossom season, various locations host nighttime cherry blossom events and markets, allowing for a delightful combination of experiences while exploring the eastern and southern regions of Hokkaido.
