Nagara River Fireworks Festival

📅 Aug 8 📍 Gifu
Nagara River Fireworks Festival
A traditional spectacle co-hosted by the All Japan Chunichi Shimbun, set against the backdrop of Gifu's Kinkazan and the Nagara River.

This is a historic national fireworks festival in the Tokai region, held on the first Saturday of August each year (with slight adjustments in some years). The launch site is located along the riverbank of the Nagara River in Gifu City, stretching from downstream of Nagara Bridge to upstream of Kinkazan Bridge, with over 10,000 fireworks set off.

Nagara River Fireworks Festival

The backdrop of the festival features the famous Kinkazan and Gifu Castle atop the mountain. The program includes a continuous display of massive rapid-fire fireworks (Star Mine), nighttime colored smoke, and specially designed fireworks that burst over the clear waters of the Nagara River. Festival stalls will line both sides of the riverbank for hundreds of meters that night.
